To believe that the source of overcoming is in us without Him is a deceit and a lie. Many say, "confess it," and we can, but what we confess is our FAITH. Our power is IN HIM, not "in us." No "perfect doctrine" overcomes; it is the Spirit of God in Jesus that does. We are in a fallen world and we get a foretaste of the future glory in Jesus. We are "doing time" here, but one day the sentence is up and if we are aligned right, we get free, forever. I hurt with those who hurt because I have lost my own family and friends to deaths. The older you get, the more you get to deal with it.
Three years ago this month, my wife and I packed our belongings and made the biggest move of our lives. After living in Florida for 24 years, we pulled up our roots and relocated to Georgia. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done because I'm a sentimental guy who gets very attached to people and places. Yet I found extra grace for this transition because I knew I was following the Holy Spirit. Counselors say relocation is one of the most stressful things in life—ranking right up there with the death of a loved one. It's a huge combination of stressors—selling a house, buying or renting a new house, hiring movers, leaving friends and stepping into the dark unknown. Not fun!
Love is a basic message. However, it is a message we aren't hearing from the pulpits. It is a message that needs to reverberate in our souls. Our spirit man knows love, because a key characteristic of Christ is love. However, are we allowing our soul to be love and give love? This morning as I was in worship, the Spirit of the Lord came in powerfully and a new song came up prophetically from within me. As I was singing and ministering over my team in the room, the word love came up. The Spirit of the Lord started to speak to me about love.
Does it seem like the stuff that used to work for you doesn't anymore? If you've ever tried to lose weight, you may know what plateaus are. It's when your body stops responding to what was working before. Health and fitness coaches will tell you to switch up your routine to "shock" your system so you can keep getting results. Or maybe you've outgrown your "shell." There are certain animals that have to leave their old shell when they've outgrown it in order to find a bigger one. Do you feel like you need room to grow?
We walked out of the restaurant, and as soon as I turned around a little boy was standing confidently in my path, hand outstretched to shake mine. He looked me straight in the eyes and asked me a question. "Sir, would you like to buy some cookies or snacks or make a donation to support my Scout troop?" He couldn't have been more than four or five years old and maybe three and a half feet tall, but he had a determination about him I rarely see in most grown men. I immediately smiled, delighted at the unexpected encounter and said, "Of course!"
People have problems – Some are a bit self-inflicted, but resistant to change because they are there for a reason. And, people occasionally like those reasons more than they like your help. For example, wounded hearts try to lighten the pain with substances abuse that ends up being addictive. Said another way, the wounding is the root cause or purpose behind the problem. Sometimes problems have roots outside us; in our circumstances, our generational DNA or curses in our bloodlines. The resulting problem and coping mechanism are still resistant to change and still driven by a hidden purpose or power. Counselors and therapists can make a good living working on these kinds of problems because they often last a lifetime. Being a Christian counselor and waiving Bible verses at problems typically doesn't work either.
Many of you have already heard my testimony this week of my last CT scan being clear of cancer once again. For those of you who know me, know how the enemy has unsuccessfully tried to take my life since I was a young girl. In the book of Luke, Jesus said to Peter: "Simon Simon, Satan has asked for you that he may sift you as wheat, but I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren."
Life can be confusing. Circumstances don't make sense and, sometimes, it can be difficult to know what to do. Far too often, we get hung up on being perfect or on the notion that there is ONLY ONE way to attain our end goal or reach our destination. Beyond that, there are many times, perhaps more often than not, that we feel we have no idea what exactly where to begin. Even as someone gifted both prophetically and with seeing, I still struggle with this. I tend to see the end result, but usually not the detailed, step-by-step process of getting there. It has taken many years, but I have come to understand and accept that not fully knowing is COMPLETELY normal.
My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20–22 I always encourage my church to be mindful of their eye and ear gates. Essentially, this means that we need to be conscious of what we watch and hear on a regular basis. The Book of Proverbs, which is chock-full of God's wisdom, tells us, "My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh."
Through a recent prophetic dream, it was revealed that the Lord is calling forth intercessors to release and declare the word of the Lord so the angelic host can act on His command to take out enemy forces. "Bless the Lord, you His angels, who are mighty, and do His commands, and obey the voice of His word" (Ps. 103:20). This exhortation comes through a fellow prophetic intercessor and writer, Madeline James, from Winchester, Kentucky. She contacted me last week with a dream she had where I appeared with a particular dog in the midst of a sniper attack. As she described this dream, it was evident there was powerful symbolism being illustrated with a charge to intercessors.
