Do you want to be happy - I mean, really happy? I believe that deep down we all want to be happy and enjoy our lives. We can spend a lot of time and energy trying to do things that will make us happy, but our own efforts will never truly satisfy us. That's because God doesn't want our minds to be on ourselves all the time. He wants us to look past the things that are happening in our own lives and reach out to others and bless them. Because when our focus is on ourselves, we usually end up feeling sorry for ourselves and get caught up in self-pity.
When spiritual warfare starts, servants beat themselves up. Attacks from the enemy result in strained relationships, rejection, loss of finances, health problems, confusion, etc. Servants immediately conclude God is judging them, and they must have opened a door with sin in their life. Last night I had a dream. There was a tiny sliver in the back of my hand that was hard to see and stuck so tightly I couldn't pull it out for days. Finally, I got a clear view and pulled it out with some difficulty. When I woke up, I asked the Lord what it meant.
Growing up, I had one primary prayer request: my mother's healing from her emotional illness. As early as I can remember, this request topped every prayer list I ever made. It was the subject of every spoken and unspoken prayer request in church and Sunday school, the thing Grandma and I prayed for each time I spent the weekend with her, and what Dad prayed for every night. With this much prayer going up on her behalf, I knew one day God might just get fed up with hearing her name and answer our prayers, so we'd all move on to something else.
"Movement." Just the word itself conjures images of crowded, busy streets, people walking, leaves falling from trees and rivers and streams flowing. Movement is tied to life, and where there is movement, there is the reminder that life still exists. But what about all those moments in life where we find ourselves feeling trapped, paralyzed and stagnant because of trauma and unexpected pain? How do we learn to move again, even when we feel so stuck? How do we start to live again when it might feel there's nothing else to live for? The apostle Paul said, "Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret" (1 Cor. 14:13, NRSVA). Paul shared a number of profound truths about speaking in tongues, and in this verse's context he was laying the principles for the public speaking of tongues. When tongues are spoken for all to hear within the church body, an interpretation is necessary for the edification of the congregation. Paul said that if he were to go to a gathering of believers speaking in tongues, it wouldn't be beneficial to those who heard unless there were a revelation or prophecy or word of instruction with an interpretation that followed (1 Cor. 14:6-12).
Recently as I was talking to the Lord, I heard Him speak this over many people: "Get up again! Get ferocious in faith over the vision and what I have promised you. You are stepping into a grand manifestation." At that moment, I sensed an empowering wind of the Holy Spirit blowing fiercely into the lives of many men and women who've felt like they have been "beaten down" over the visions and promises of the Lord that they have been carrying. These people had been teetering on the edge, not wanting to fight over the vision or the promise anymore; but when the Lord spoke those words, "Get up again!" there was such a strong, renewed sense of resolve.
Waiting. It seems like I have spent my entire life simply waiting for something, or for God to move on my behalf. How many ordinary days have dragged along when I had my heart and mind set on tomorrow? The truth of the matter is this: we all have to wait for something! And it is my personal choice whether I will wait well or wait poorly. "Wait for and confidently expect the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for and confidently expect the LORD" (Ps. 27:14, AMP).
There is a movement of creative miracles that operates in the realm of God's glory. Yes, the bible says that believers will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. Your hands are anointed for healing. But there is another realm of miracles called, THE DANGEROUS SHADOW. You can carry so much of God's glory on your life and live in such an intimate place with the Holy Spirit, that He is your best friend. You can experience so much of the tangible overshadowing of God's presence, that your shadow becomes dangerous.
Summer is here, and with the warmer weather comes the opportunity for many American Christians to go overseas on short-term mission trips. I suspect large numbers of believers will travel out of the country because COVID kept us so isolated during the past two years. One of the greatest joys in my life is ministering overseas. Since I surrendered to a call to missions, I've visited 36 nations and developed relationships with dozens of pastors and leaders who now consider me their friend and brother.
